i have a blood parrot and firemouth...the BP is orange and use to have wonderful white looking, healthy fins. now i notice theres some black spots on the tips and such. my firemouth has the same black on its fins! im glad that i got a good look or i wouldnt have noticed. its seems to have come quickly and it cant be good. ive heard this is due to high ammonia levels?? i keep good water and water stats...unless i had a mini cycle? would this cause the black like that? will the black go away ever?

ahh

This sounds like finrot. It is usually caused by bacteria but can also be fungal, so a photo would help us work out which to treat for. If you can cure it (which is likely) the black bits will drop off and the fins will regrow. It's possible that some of their colour will not return.

Tank size and what else is in it. Water params (ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/pH/temp). If the temperature is at the upper end of the ideal range for those fish, reducing it by a few degrees will slow the spread of the finrot. However, do not take it down too far or too quickly as causing more stress could accelerate it.

stats are ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate is close to zero too...

temp is at 74 and sometimes gets to 76...no live plants and its heavily stocked

1 juvy jd, medium blood parrot, two eels, firemouth, BN, whiptail cat and striped raphael.

the tank is very well filtered considering it has 2 55 gal 3 stage filters and 1 fluval 3 cannister filter.

i hope its bacteria because it can be fixed

heres a pic but its kinda hard to see...its from my crackberry and i just spooked him so hes vertical.

you can really see it on the dorsal that touches the caudel fin
