Last year I bought a pair of male gouramis that a lady had apprently brought up to the LFS because she found out she was moving within a few days. One was 5" long and the other was almost 6". I already had a younger male in this 30g tank for a while, but I figured that because the two had been raised together and the young one was still maturing it wouldn't be a problem. I don't know what happenned, but the 5" one got the better of the other two, and over the next week the other two died in QT swimming forwards and backwards erratically as though they were trying to breathe. Well I want to breed gouramis so I bought a female yesterday who looked large at the LFS but shes 2/3 the other guys size and he's picking on her. My question is will this guy start to breed if I added a few more females to the tank and how do I go about doing it?

Are these dwarf gouramis?? Because breeding really depends on the species of gourami.
In any case if they are gouramis which construct bubble nests...if you really want to breed i would keep the females and males in seperate tanks and only when the females look particularly plump and the male has a fully constructed bubble nest would i put them together.

If you only have 1 tank, go with atleast 2 females per 1 male, and make sure they have enough room to flee when the male gets aggressive.

sorry I meant to say that they were blue gouramis. I acutally have four tanks, but I doubt that they'll want to go with my oscar, African Cichlids, or clown fish lol. I'll get a few more females.
