I got a bit of a problem
I, last week, bought two blue gouramis, and for for first few days it's been fine, but now, since thursday now, the gouramis have been fighting, the bigger, male, has been picking on the smaller, female. The male won't let the female leave the front corner, for anything, and the fights seem to be becoming violent now, the females fins are starting to show wear of fights and she's starting to sit in the corner, hovering with her tail hanging down. This is really worrying me, because the female's becoming very shy and she's scared to do anything (but eat when i feed them)
can someone help? What can i do to stop it?

What is the size of your tank? The more space the male has the less likely he'll attack the female. Also a heavily planted tank may calm the male down a bit. Another choice is to add another female if you have the room since gouramis do best in a trio, 1 male to 2 female ratio. It is best to get gouramis of the same size or grow them out until they are the same size.

i agree with this!

i had the same problem with these the male attacking the female i split them up and they lived happily singly or you can have a trio!

It's a 29 gallon tank, i was going to get another gouramis, i just need to get some money first, lol, and i will start working on some more plants just have to get the money for them too, lol

yeah id get one or two more females to divide his attention he will be less likely to single one female out then
good luck
:good: scot

Yeah, i've read (and been told by some friends) that by adding more fish go a group with one bully fish, it will divide the aggression between the two, instead of singling out one, so i'll probably only get one more, but i may get two, who knows, i just hope i can tell the difference between them at the store, cuz i thought these were both female until the males fin started growing longer

Maybe you have 2 males
Get rid of the big male and leave the female by herself, or get a second female to live with her. Blue gouramis are notoriously agro towards each other.
Gold gouramis are the same species as the blue and have the same temperament.
Male gouramis have a longer more pointed dorsal and anal fin. Females are shorted and more rounded.

i thought so, and i think i'm gonna keep the male, and get a second female, because they seem to get along fine most of the time, it's just the odd time now that the male will get "grumpy" and chase the female around
