I got a bit of a problem
I, last week, bought two blue gouramis, and for for first few days it's been fine, but now, since thursday now, the gouramis have been fighting, the bigger, male, has been picking on the smaller, female. The male won't let the female leave the front corner, for anything, and the fights seem to be becoming violent now, the females fins are starting to show wear of fights and she's starting to sit in the corner, hovering with her tail hanging down. This is really worrying me, because the female's becoming very shy and she's scared to do anything (but eat when i feed them)
can someone help? What can i do to stop it?

I have two cosby gouramis witch are closely related, i have had them for almost two years now and i have always had this problem. Mine never damage fins or anything serious but they do fight and change colour when they do, they can also become very tempremental although they dont damage over fish in my tank they sometimes damage themselves. However of recent dates they have stopped and become very relaxed, all i can recomend is that you stay patient and hopefully they should stop.
I would like to know wheather they damage any other fish in the tank or are they in a tank on their own?

sounds like you're gonna have to split them up i'm afraid, i also had this problem once with my two opaline gouramis and it never sorted itself out so i took the aggressive one to my lfs - funny thing was as soon as they put it inone of their tanks with some gouramis it did exactly the same thing, all the others were up one end of the tank with my one up the other end on its own!!!! anyway i don't think it sounds like its gonna improve, theyre just aggressive types of gouramis.

My female would bully my male and for the most part, kept him on one side of the tank. I finally had enough and took her back to the store. I kept the male for two reasons. He was more beautiful and he never bothered any of the other fish.

I had the same trouble with two opaline gouramis. The bully, the female surprisingly, which went in the tank last, went back to the shop and the male's fine and doesn't bother any other fish. Had the same thing with golden gouramis too, best just to have one. Best thing is to take one back to the shop as I doubt you'll stop it. Buying a third will only increase the problem.
