I have a 29 gallon with 4 columbian tetra, 6 gold barbs, a jewel grouami and a male krib. He seems a little protective of the center of the tank (His driftwood cave), he is still real young not even old enough to mate, but the female krib died a few days ago. Any guesses as to why hes mad.

The female may have been dominant over him. Or big enough so he wouldnt challenge her. Theyre pretty agressive fish. So my best guess would be that now shes gone he can take over the tank a bit. My female is a right man beater. He may calm down in time but id pair him up with a larger female. Its always nice to have them in a pair.

any chance he could be guarding eggs? since she's died and he's taken over? my male is a big softy compared to my female

Both those are good suugestions. She was a lot older and bigger than him. I had the water low the other day because i was doing somthing but now that its been risen he seems to be a little calmer. thank you both

I would think it's because she was more dominant. You need to watch out for those tetras. They might become a snack.

They are close to the same size, the tetra are not really bothered by the Krib that much,

Simply put, he is a cichlid and cichlids are all territorial to some degree or other. He may have become more aggressive since losing his mate because he now feels more threatened by everyone else, or he might simply becoming more aggressive with age.
