Aga 2006 Contest

Yeh some of the tanks are truly stunning works of art. I see the CAU guys have entered in force! Certainly something for us to think about and lots of good scaping ideas.

Will/have you mentioned this in the PFK articles, George? Seeing some of these tanks would be inspiring to the UK planted scene.

This certainly deserved first place. the way the sand just trails off into the jungle. that really is amazing

I have included several good links in my forthcoming aquascaping series and the AGA contest is among them.

It is a great 'scape. I remember seeing this in its early days, it has matured beautifully and I think the creator has photographed it just at the right stage.

its an amzing concept, and i wonder how long he spent playing with the sand and stones before he got the right look

There does seem to be a trend with trying to create a ravine type scene or an essance of a jungle with a river passing through, i like this style.

Moody, I think you deserved a place in this competition, your nano is certainly one of the better ones entered, even if that wasn't rewarded by the judges. Unfortently you were up against some excellent scapes this year.

As for the 'across the river' I preferred it in the 'early days' as George puts it. I think it lacks something, not really sure what but seems a bit flat with the same plants either side of the 'river'. An excellent scape and he certainly has some skill, just not my cup of tea :)

These tanks are even madder George!!! Tank 20, you can barely see a bit of open water at the back!!!! Completely crammed with plants.

Forgive my ignorance, but is this difference from the AGA contest?

Sam

EDIT - shame they dont post the tank stats.

EDIT 2 - we have sooooooo much to learn in the UK :/

ADA - Aqua Design Amano International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest

The "biggest" aquascaping contest in the world. If you get in the top 100 you are very, very good. All those in the top 500 get the contest book. I really intend to fire in some scapes next year, worth it for the book alone. I'd be very happy to get in the top 250.

Here's positions of some top 'scapers you may recognise from this year's contest -

26th Justin Law
36th Luis Navarro
40th Oliver Knott
68th Wayne Sham
119th Dennis Diets
141st Tony Gomez
160th Mike Senske
164th Norbert Sabat
367th Roy Deki

I was quietly pleased with my tank ...... but this is aquascaping on a different level!

woo......I'm just back from my holiday and nearly miss the result of AGA 2006.
It is real a surprise for me! Sure, I am very very happy with the result as I get the Best of Show again. It's amazing!
Congrats to all winnners here again!

P.S. I use my original Chinese name this year coz I've got some problem of getting the prize from AGA last year, hahaha!

George - do you know if you can purchase the book at all? It would be nice to have it along side the Nature Aquarium series.

You dont need me to say it Justin, but well done, think you and the rest of the CAU guys have some amazing tanks and you certainly deserved the best in show.
