i have kept tropical fish for several years and recently decided to try fish breeding and bought a pair of silver sailfin mollies, the female died one morning but did not gte disheartened, i did a water change the same day and found one single fry. i thought id try again and bought another female. she fell pregnant and i moved her to a hatchery as the the other female died in the tank while in delivery i think...

anyway, the new female gave birth to around 25 fry, and seemed exhausted and not swimming correctly so i segregated her for a day so she could re-gain her strength and after 3 days she is still not swimming correctly and cant even swim against the filter. i have to keep her segregated as the male is determined to impregnate her again and chases her round the tank. i have tried treatment for swim bladder and things but things havent improved. Can anyone help with giving me advice it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

How does she swim?
is she bloated.
Wondering if the fry have pressed hard on the swim bladder and damaged it.

when in the tank she swims almost vertically with her nose towards the surface, she looks like she struggles against the water, i got her from the store around 3 weeks ago so id imagine she would be around 5-6 months old and this is her first pregnancy i think.

Its swim bladder, does it look like her tail weighing her down in the water.
If she exhausted she not going to make it.
What do you feed your fish as most swim bladder problems are due to bad diet.
I would issolate her to a container at the top of the tank.

yea it looks like her tail is weighing her down, ive had her contained in one of those box net hatcherys for the last day. i usually feed them a mix of flakes and tablet food, varied with daphnia, blood worms and brine shrimp as an occasional treat through the week. i checked that link you posted and ive put a little grated carrot in beside her to help with it, should i continiue with the swim bladder treatment solution? thanks for the quick responces by the way

Frozen peas are the best.
Cook peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush into small peices and add to the tank.
Remove the carrot it won't help her peas are better.

alright cool. well ive been watching her for the past half hour and she is back swimming at the top of the quarantine instead of just lying on the net floor, i guess that is goodish news

No to be honest, but then again fish can surprise you.
I will keep fingers crossed for you.

i removed the carrot and added the peas as wilder said. its just hoping and waiting now. i really hope she recovers, after going thru something like 3 males and 4 females to finally get the success i was after.

Wishing you all the best bless her.

i forgot to ask. if she does recover, how long does a swim bladder disorder take to recover from, and how long afte could she be taken out onf isolation?

Once she gains her balance and is able to swim properly without getting exhausted.
