im not new to fishkeeping but all i've kept is goldfish, they now live in a larger tank im my room. In my small original tank im planing on housing a betta, atm i've planted it up and am waiting for it to settle before i add a betta, all the usual levels like nitrite amonia etc are 0 ph 7.8 and its a constent-ish 26 degrees C i guess this is ok for a betta, is there any thing else i need to know about them because im hoping to add one next week, this is what the tank looks like atm its getting there.

take a small mirror with you and place it directly in front of the one(s) you like. if he flares, check to make sure he looks healthy. if you're getting a pet shop betta, look for one of the smaller ones because alot of times, they're younger.

that's what i've done.

1) You need to have a heater, filter in the tank and the tank should be 3Gall VERY VERY minimum imo
2) The tank needs cycled
3) You need to have the tank setup so its interesting as Betta get bored
4) Get some good quality Betta food. Attisons Betta Pro is very good, bloodworms, etc
5) Take your time deciding on a Betta as there are lots of very poor quality fish about. If possible look at KG and RB Bettas as they do some really nice fish.
Might give you an idea of what to look for.
6) I personally dislike the long finned Bettas, i much prefer the Plakats, your choice though.

That looks like a really nice little tank :good: There are tons of pinned topics on bettas that are really really helpful. Some basic things to know about bettas, males are solitary and aggressive and should not be kept with other bettas, bettas require a high protein diet, and are also carnivores, while they'll tolerate vegetable based flakes if its their only choice, your best diet options are betta pellets (such as hikari betta bio-gold) supplemented with an occasional snack of frozen bloodworms. It's also a good idea to fast your betta once a week because they can get constipated easily. Bettas do best in warmer water 76-82 degrees F (not sure what that would be in celcius). Do you have a filter in your tank? If not you'll have to do frequent water changes, hmmmm thats all I can think of right now, lol. Feel free to contact me if u have any other questions :D

ok cool, i have a filter, the tanks cycled and i also have a heater 82 f is 28 degrees c so 26c must be ok then, well looks like im set to get one soon then just need to find one that me and the gf can agree on

Note that your tank will not be cycled if you have left it without fish for more than a day or two. Check the links in my signature if you're unsure of this.

i've had a second filter floss in my juwel filter for weeks and added that last night before i added this little guy today my girlfriend jen picked and paid for him along with 7 small tetras
