Down at my lfs they have baby African cichlids for sale. As my frontosa is moving to a new home next week, I'd like to add some more to the cich tank (smaller ones like labs). The ones for sale are only about an inch long. I'm unsure whether they could go straight in to the cich tank, as they are hardly juveniles yet. Could I grow them on in a community tank first or would they need a separate one?

put them right away on your cichlid tank, If you put them on your community tank depending what kind of cichlid it is, it might still get pretty nasty on the other fish as they would start to mark territory...My advice is to put them with your other cichlid right away, as long as you have rocks and something the juvi's can hide on whenever they get chase, which is normal if you introduce a fish to an already establish african cichlid tank.....

I agree, make sure you have lots of rocks so they can establish territories. Personally I like to add a large group at once so no one has the "home court advantage" and they are all on even ground :)

yes and make the rocks close together so that the babys can go in the little cracks thats is what i did and the babys in my tank do awosme ... well most of them did lol the odd one felt brave lol hahahahaha

Trouble is it's not a juvenile it's a baby of about 1 inch.
