African Characin Experiences?

I'd dearly love to buy a nice big group of African Red Eye Tetra (Arnoldichthys spilopterus) and/or African Longfin Tetra (Brycinus longipinnis) to act as dithers for my existing African fish, which like more current than the more common Congo Tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus). However, just like with "Debauwi Catfish" (P. buffei/debauwi), I'm wary about how they might cope with Southampton's hard alkaline water long term.

Any experiences, good or bad, with either of these tetras in the current TFF community?
