hi i am thinking of turning my juewl trigon 350 into a marine tank, i have done loads of reserch and am just about ready, i was just wondering if a sump is better than a external filter or is it just to hide the equipment? also can you attach the the skimmer to the sump instead of having it on the main tank?
any advise would be great, thanks

External filters are not necessary on a marine tank. Sumps (if designed well) are better than a cannister as well as being able to hide things from the tank. They also increase the total volume of the system allowing greater stability.

Skimmers cn be mounted in the sump, but make sure there is enough clearance in the cabinet to house it.

thanks for your reply, can you tell me if there are any websites on the best way to design a sump? or if someone can advise me on the best way. thanks

you might also want to check out the "realm of knowledge" pinned topic in the marine chit chat section :good:. Lots of other good topics in there that are well worth reading (including melevsreef)
