Hello

Well i have been using the dechlorinator recently and on reading the ingredients discovered i am allergic to it meaning i cant atm put my hands in my tank.

Even wearing gloves because obviously tank levels come higher up than gloves cover, so the ingredient in this is aloe vera.

does anyone know of a tap safe conditioner that doesnt contain this please, it brings my hands out in blisters which are painful so im trying to avoid it.

I want to plant new plants and add stones and caves and currently cant, anyone of ideas of where to buy one that desnt contain that or how to get round the problem?

Most dechlorinators don't contain this... That's an ingredient in Stress Coat+.

I prefer Prime, which does not contain aloe vera.

If you can't find that, get one like Tap Safe, Tap Water Conditioner... etc.

Apologies... Tap Safe does contain Aloe Vera.

AquaSafe does not.

Thankyou i will look into that. I currently use tapsafe but noticed it has aloe vera so i need to change to that aquasafe i think. Is it a similar price do you know and used in the same way?

Will the water in my tank already eventually dilute do you know as i know i cannot empty my tank completely out now?

Very nice aquarium you have there eaglesaquarium :)

As one of those research nuts as well as someone who does not believe in putting aloe vera into a tank, the issues surrounding prime have always interested me. I should state that I do not use any dechlor because i have excellent well water from a private well. However, I do keep both Amquel and Amquel+ on hand. I take them with me when doing fish things I may need to use tap water with that does need a dechlor and I add some Amquel to the bags when I ship fish.

Prime has a great rep, but a lot of that is advertising hype. Pretty much all dechlors use similar ingredients. So why I am I not such a huge fan of Prime and some other SeaChem products as many others? Perhaps the best way to explain it is to take a quote from W.C, Fields ""If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull."

Well I do read a bunch of bull in some of SeaChem's literature. It is why I never recommend using Stability for example. But in my searching to find out what SeaChem adds to state "Prime® also promotes the production and regeneration of the natural slime coat." I stumbled upon and interesting discussion of the product. It is a semi long read but worth it I think, you can decide what you think after you read it.

What I can say is that SeaChem's standard answer to many questions is "Its proprietary." So why do so many competitors who have products as good or better than what SeaChem offers have no problem publishing their ingredients?

Well, I like the concentration of the stuff... I don't need to use much to get a good result.

Did not realize aloe vera was used in dechlor.  Also, did not realize one could have a severe allergy issue.  What do you use if/when you get a sunburn? Do you just tough it out?

Also, this is pretty inconvenient, but you could just leave your water sitting out in buckets and let it dechlor itself.  Of course, there may be other problems to leaving large buckets of water sitting out.  Also, this is straight impossible if you have a large tank.

(At atmopheric pressure/conditions chlorine gas will come out of solution.  Idk exactly how long it takes, though, but I've used the method in the past for watering sensitive plants and the like.  A day or two seems adequate.  Any opinions from those who feel like doing the vapor pressure/rate of vaporization calcs?)

One other option that may be easier for you is to get long sleeved veterinary gloves which are anything from 80cm to about 90cm long, so you should be able to reach to the bottom of your tank without any of you tank water touching your skin.

You can find them on Amazon website or try a google search, am sure something will come up to your satisfaction if you feel you want to try this option.

Just an idea!
