Hi All, Joined this forum today because I cant find an answer to my problem.

I Own a Juwel 180 curved tank for about 2 years now, I was changing 25% of the water this morning and cleaning the filters, when the whole filter system that holds all my filters plus the sponges etc, came off the back of the tank and started to float in the water.

Cant find an answer on how to get a replacement or re stick it back on, it has never happened before, and I have about 50 baby guppies in the tank plus lots of other mature fish that I dont want to loose.

If I have have to apply some glue type stuff on the 4 pads to restick it back in position, does the tank need to be emptied first and how long before the glue sets, and I can fill up the tank again please.

Many thanks in advance, as any help would be much appreciated.

Mike

hello and welcome Mike, i would use some superglue at first and see if it bonds to the glass. If not, i think the only answer would be silicone, the tank would need to be empty and the silicone would take 24 hours to dry.

Get yourself an external filter and have more space in the tank without the internal filter...

Thanks for the replies, I found out that it can happen with the Juwel filter systems, so i need a tube of black silicone to restick it back to the glass.

Takes 48 hours to dry i'm told, so I hope the fish can servive without a filter system for a few days ?

Where are your fish right now? I assume you've had to move them into a temporary location as you need to silicon the filter back into the tank right?

I think 48 hours is pushing it a little, not so much for the fish as big daily water changes could cope but the mature media might suffer...and when you start filtering you may find yourself in a mini-cycle....maybe?

Honestly mate, get an external filter and move on...you'll have more space for your fish then too...a lot of people switch to external canister filters, they mean more tank space and are generally better at doing the filtering too...

Get some Gold Label sealant. It works under water and is non-toxic. Problem solved!

If you take leave the filter off for too long your bacteria will die and you fish will be put in jeopardy. Keep the filter on as much as possible during this process. In my experience, 12 hours is enough to kill a filter dead.
