As I have documented in another topic I am collecting a tank this month that is 30 x 15 x 12 inches and contains

2 3-4 INCH CLOWN LOACH

1 3 INCH SILVER DOLLAR

1 BOTIA

1 3-4 INCH RED TAILED SHARK

1 CONGA TETRA

1 ROSY BARBS

10 ZEBRA DANIO

My good lady is'nt none too happy as my hobbies seem to be taking over but thats another topic so I was thinking that adding a couple of fish that my wife likes.

Now I asked her what she likes and she said bottom dwellers crayfish or somthing that will cling to the side of the tank that has a cute smile :fun: . Now I know from reading around that crayfish are out as they seem to eat most other fish so I am looking for ideas from all the experts in here on what I could place in the tank without overcrowding. Also if they help to clen the bottom of the tank that would be great. Also is there a tropical fish out there called Plec

The plants in the tanks are plastic as the last owner has tried real plants but the fish just ate them all but I could try if required. I Realise that I will need to leave the aqurium for a few weeks to settle before adding new occupants.

Thanks in advanvce

ok, i might as well refer you to the topic, but do this before you add any fish to the tank.

The tank is already set up and I will be bringing with it the filter media some tank water etc. I am getting the tank etc off a friend who is moving out the country and so can't keep her fish so I can't really do a fishless cycle as the present fish would have to be kept somewhere whilst the tanks cycled.

The gravel and filter media should contain all the nessasary good bacteria needed and some of the responses in my other thread lead me to belive though risky it should be ok. I will not add any new fish for a few weeks though to give the tanks time to settle again and to get the levels equalised.

I am just looking at the future here and trying to come up with a moving plan and a good maintainence schedule to try to keep the present inhabitance alive whilst if size of tank alows adding some of my own fish and plants to personalise a little bit.

I guess I am fishing :hyper: for ideas here on what I can add to the tank that wont get eaten or won't eat the current inhabitance whilst trying to improve on the enviroment Ie adding say a fern as there is only a single 3' flurescent tube in the hood.

thanks

There is indeed a fish called pleco, or rather quite a few fish. The common pleco you want to avoid, as it grows very big. Same with the sailfin pleco. But a good choice is the bristlenose pleco (ancistrus), which stays around 5 inches, does cling to glass and gets on with most tank companions.

Your tank is about 23 gallons. I'm concerned about your silver dollar. They get big... atleast 5 inches. I've seen 12" silver dollars as well. Red tailed sharks reach about 5" and clown loaches grow atleast 6". I wouldn't put any fish in at all if you plan to keep all those fish in there. You're going to have problems later on with their size. If you really want some fish, I'd get more friends for your tetra and barb.

What I would do is get rid of the silver dollar, clown loaches and shark. Get a few more conga tetras and barbs, and get a small pleco. That's just me. I'm sure you don't want to get rid of your fish, though. I really wouldn't reccomend getting any more fish for that tank.

Chibi has given excellent advice (and unlike some of us was not too lazy to calculate the dimensions of the tank  ). I think this is definitely what you want to go for: rehome the silver dollars, the clown loaches and the shark. Then I would say keep the danios and a school of either rosy barbs or congo tetras. This will actually leave you fully stocked, though if you add extra filtration you may eventually be able to add a small plec. Rosy barbs grow quite big though.

seconded, unfortunately the stocking of that tank isn't too good, but if you find a fish store that will exchange fish for store credit you can hand them in and get something that you like that's more suitable in return. :)
