I am a complete beginner but have purchased 12 fish (6 Angel Fish and 6 Loach). All are circa 6cms in length. Three questions … What size of tank or tanks do I need. Currently I have one 40 litre tank. Should I keep them separately or mixed and what would be the optimum water temperature

40 liters is too small for the fish that you have. And what kind of loach do you have?

What type of loach?
The angelfish should have at least 60 gallons for 6 of them. Be aware that they may pair up and become aggressive to the other Angel's.

Welcome to TFF.

Given that you have just the one tank and it is 40 liters (10 gallons), all of the fish mentioned need to be returned. The angelfish need a tank that is at least 120 cm (4 feet) in length, just for them. And as JuiceBox52 said, they will as they develop likely pair up and then you will really have problems.

The loaches--none will work in a 10g if these are the standard botine loach but we need to know the species. Kuhlii loaches for example might be OK, but there are other issues too.

They are Clown Loach Botia if that helps. Do I need another 40 litre tank? And would I then have to separate the two types of fish.

Thanks - Clown Loach Botia. Are they compatible.

You would need a much larger tank. 228lieters would be a good size

Hi! Angel fish need more room. I would go with a 90 or 100 US Gallon tank just to give some extra room and assure those guys have a good life. You can plant it really nice and make it look fantastic

You need at least a 4-foot (120 cm) long tank just for the angelfish; this long a tank would be around 60 gallons (220 liters or more) but is minimum, as said above a 90g would be better..

The clown loaches must have a tank that is 8-feet (240 cm) in length. Length is the prime concern. This long a tank would likely be 240 gallons (900 liters).

You must think ahead to their mature size, as fish grow fairly rapidly and need space while they grow.

Agree with everyone. A 10 gallon is too small for both angelfish and clown loach.

I raise a mated pair of angelfish in a 55 gallon tank, one grew to over 6 inched wide the other over 4 inches wide. I would not go with any tank smaller than 50-55 gallon for just them.

The loaches will tend to nip the angelfish fins, so I would say no, unless they had a HUGE tank, 300gallons or more
