after moving my tank i lost a few fish so my aim today is to begin to re stock. i currently have 5 neons and a sailfin plec (he will be moving home again shortly). what i would like is.

5 neons
2 Angles
2 dwarf gouramis
10 cherry shrimp

i no the dangers of keeping angles and neons together but ive always kept them together and never had any problems.

the tank is 125l just wondering if that was to many fish or i could add a few more. If so what would you suggest.

What are the tank dimensions?

If it's not a 33gal tall tank then you shouldn't put angels in it, I have a standard size 33gal tank and they are not tall enough

How old is the tank?

My rio 125 isn't 20" high, it's 16.5"

For angels you need 18" of water, that's after taking into account substrate

Right that prob explains it, juwel have recently increased their tank sizes, so even though it's still called a rio 125 it's actually now more like 150L and I believe they have increased the height on all the model range.

Where u get the tank from? I know seapets.co.uk were selling the new size tanks.

If it is defo 20" deep then angels will be fine, try get an established pair otherwise if you get 2 that don't pair off then one is likely to kill the other.

If you're worried at all about neons with them then harlequins would be a better alternative.

I'm presuming you mean the one on york road near great clothes in Leeds. I have been there and they have a decent selection of fish which all seem ok but they aren't anywhere near as knowledgable as qss and I have been given bad advcie from there in the past.

I think you'll always find that dedicated fish stores like QSS will pretty much always come out on top against general pet stores such as paws for though and pets at home

Just out of interest...have you considered keyhole cichlids? They're peaceful cichlids, tend to use the whol aquarium, aren't known for snacking on neons...

Worth a look if you haven't considered them. IMO they would be nicer than angels, but then I'm not an angel fan.

Then only other thing I would say is up the number of neons (or whatever other dither type fish you go for) :)

Eitherways it sounds like it'll be a nice tank once it's up and running.

well i ended up getting 4 tuxedo platys and 2 dwarf gouramis all seem happy for now what else do you think i should go for. What about a pair of Rams

I would stick to only one pair of new world cichlids;
Keyhole Cichlids
Bolivian Rams (German blue rams and German gold rams aren't suitable for your tank)
1/2 Angels
A group of Apistogramma

What are the rest of your stocking plans now? By my reckoning at the moment you have...
5 x Neons
4 x Tuxedo Platys
2 x Dwarf Gouramis
1 x Common Pleco (to be re-homed still?)
