Hi everyone I'm new here and looking for advice on stocking my new tank.
I've had a 10 gallon tank and a 5 gallon tank for about 6 months and of course had to upgrade to something bigger. I just got my 28 gallon all set up and pH, ammonia etc all correct and I've combined my other two tanks into it the past week.

Right now I have:
1 female betta
4 guppy-like (not really sure what they were they were free babies from the pet store that they couldn't sell, starting to look like guppys though)
1 balloon belly Mollie
3 albino Cory
2 neon tetras
3 gold panda lyretail Mollies
1 snail

I'd like to add more but unsure of where to go from here. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks!

First, I would want to know your water parameters for the tap water.  You can ascertain this from the water supply folks, often on their website, or if not just call them.  You want to know the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness, sometimes termed Alkalinity) and the pH.  Some fish can adapt to a certain extent, others are more fussy.

Was the new tank cycled somehow?

The female betta is going to be very uncomfortable in such a busy tank. She'll be best in a tank on her own with some plants. Bettas like warmer water than the rest of the fish and prefer softer water than the other fish (except the Cory). You'll need three more corys of the same species at the dry least to make them comfortable, but first make sure that you have properly cycled the aquariums. The neon tetras too like softer water and usually aren't suited to live in the same tank as the mollies and guppies (water hardness issue) and you really should have a minimum of six (though a school of ten is preferable for these guys).

You'll also want to make sure that your mollies are not mixed sexes because you will be bursting to the seams with babies. Same thing goes for those guppies which you will need to be sure are in fact guppies.

Thanks!

My betta has always been in with the rest of them and she actually gets along great with everyone. She plays nicely and doesn't pick on anyone. At one point I had her in a 2.5 gallon like my males all have but she was just blah and didn't do much don't put her back in with the rest and she's super active again.

I am almost certain they babies are guppys, that's what the pet store thought as well although what type I have no idea. And my mollies are all boys :)

For getting more corys and maybe tetras- how many more would be acceptable without overfilling the tank? It's a 28 gallon now front from top fin. Not sure on the dimensions of it.

Have you considered Sword tails or Platys yet? They always make a nice addition to a tank! :D

Well honestly I think you've already got plenty of fish. You really should consider splitting these guys up just because of preferences for water hardness and temperature. Whether the fish seem happy or not, there are still issues that need to be addressed in order to maintain a healthy habitat.
