Hey everyone,

I have blue rams which have spawned for the third time in my community tank none of my fish bother the rams in their area. But the female always seems to begin eating the eggs after 30 hours or so. Then the male joins in, I cant really afford a breeding tank and have no room. I just bought some moss to add to tank. Was wondering if anyone had advice on improving the chances of survival of eggs.

Cheers

I'm in the same situation with mine Gaz. I have lost lots of clutches to the male getting the munchies and eating the lot :/

Not able to offer you any suggestions but hopefully someone else can.

tank divider? breeding net? I have no experience or much knowledge in these but people are always on a bout them.

There seems to be alot of information about breeding in a seperate aquarium or special set ups. I know it takes a quite a few spawns for the parents to gain enough experience. Ive thought about a divider and fry box but surely this will cause stress, not only for the rams but other fish. Also mine have taken a liking to gravel even though i have slate and a plant pot in there for them. Not looking very promising without a breeding set up.

they are most likely still too inexperienced. if the eggs continue to get eaten after their 5th attempt then u might have to consider other reasons for them to eat the eggs

what colour are the eggs before they get eaten?

Its hard to tell i dont like to get too close to the tank were they are, id say a cream colour. Its the female which begins to eat them i reckon if i could take the female out the male would take care of them he does a good job and the female does up to 24 hours. The female begins to eat them the male chases her off then the male begins eating them after chasing her a couple of times.
