Hi all need a little advice my Betta is getting picked on he has been fine over the last few months, now some little #28### which I think is the zebra loach's is picking on him and feasting on his fins I have always told my lfs that I have a fighter in the tank will they be ok with that, and they said yes.

In the tank there are 12 leopard danios a golden plec 3 thread fin rainbow fish and 2 zebra loach's.

I was going to get a birthing net to give him some space to heal up see if he can recover and carry on.

Any advice is much appreciated I dont want it to die.

Regardless of who is doing the nipping, hes being nipped. And will continue to be. Have you introduced new fish recently, and then saw it had happened? Or has it happened before?
I dont think he'll like being in a breeding net, it'll stress him out!
Looks like you need to find the culprit, and either rehome that/those fish, rehome the betta or get the betta a tank for himself :good:

How big is the tank?
It could be the danios or the treadfins. The threadfins and loaches need to be in groups of 4+ but 6+ is best. What type of plec is it?

Tank is 160 ltr the Pleco is a golden nugget.

The Loach went in about a month ago and the thredfin went in the same time the Betta did and he was never nipped untill about a week ago before the danios

I would guess its the danios then. I would get rid of the danios and up the loaches and threadfins. The golden nugget will out grow the tank they can get 14"+ so that could do with going aswell.
maybe something like
1 betta
10 threadfins
10 loaches
1 smaller plec like BN or clown

He was getting nipped before the Danios I have been watching the tank all morning to see who it is and no one is bothering him the Danios are in there little shoal having fun.

I read here that Golden nugget plecs grow to about 8"

Oh sorry i miss read the other post i though you said he started getting nipped when the danios went in. I would say its the threadfins because the are quite active and fast.

which type is it? Evan the smallest type will get 8" not including tail so it will be atleast 10" with it which IMO makes it to big for a 160l

Poop guess I will get a bigger tank again the Thredfin went in after he did and there was no nipping of his fins I am really struggling to work out which fish it could be, think I will have to take him out no other options really :(

Are there any sharp objects in the tank? Plastic plants? bettas quite often catch themself of things like that so its best to use silk or live plants and no sharp ornament.

There is some drift wood and I put an resine ern the other day but the plec and loach's have moved in there, unless when I moved the drift wood its in the way of his little swimming path ?
