Advice Needed

Tank: 125L Fluval Roma
Filter: Eheim 2215

Can I get away with keeping Neolamprologus pulcher Kasanga 'Daffodil' and a shell dwelling species in a tank of this space. A pair of each.

It might work , if given a ood layout of rockwork to establish individual territories. I wouldn't want to try it though, the Pulcher can be quite a mean fish , don't know if the tank has a big enough footprint for a small group of Paracyps ? The Roma 125, it's ot a nice bit of height on it, shellies one end and paracyps the other (if possible).... ?
Caudopunctatus on the rocks and a couple of shell dwellers in the sandy area at the other end..... ? Could be a nice tank.....
Have a similiar sized tank (Elite95) and lookin into the same possibilities,,, have had Multifasciatus, Caudopunctaus, Dickfeldi in there, had Alto. Comp. "Sumbu shell" also, lots of possible stock choices for you

Too many possibilities! I read it can work but due to the adult size and breeding behaviour it can become feisty. I may risk it, I will definitely be upgrading tank size in a year or so. If it comes to blows I will buy a small tank for the shellies.

I did risk having a brichardi and shellies toghter.....big mistake!!....the brichardi was a nasty little bug ger that seemed to enjoy being aggressive and nipping big chunks out of the dorsal fins of the other tank mates. I personally would advise against keeping them together

I think Brichardi types are best in a soecies tank, the Brichardi will raise several generationa and take over the tank, not really good if you're after a community

I think that Fluval 125 could be a nice set up

I just cant make my mind up. I had my heart set on a shelldwelling species with another species but after seeing the Pulcher...

Only thing with the Julidochromis Dickfieldi means I would have to buy a group to form a pair and rehome the others...

What shelldwelling species will live with a ratio to help cutting down the costs I know I wont get any money back on fish I will have to rehome.

In a LFS I saw a breeding pair (on sale for £30)

They were in a tank with LOADS of fry and a 7" Common plec. Even though the tank was 5 foot long every time the pleco moved the male went for it until the poor thing was pinned against the furthest corner.

If you want to breed then just a pair in your tank with nothing else may work. Anything else in there will get bother to the point of death

In my 4 footer I had a breeding pair and it was hell on earth (or in water!)

Well I think there are enough posts advising against keeping the pulcher with anything else so it`s not really that difficult a choice to make.....either a pair of pulcher and nothing else OR shellies and possibly a dickfeldi. You don`t have to have a pair of dickfeldi, I have a single one in my Tang tank with ll the other tanks mates and it`s absolutely fine. There generally aren`t that many multifasciatus around so if you had a few that bred then I`m sure your local lfs would take them off your hands. they might even give you store credit in return like my local MA do with me

Nice as they are Neolamprologus Pulcher are one of the nastiest Tanganyikans when spawning. They will attack anything and sometimes to the death. I have a single male (the female died at third spawn) and he still attacks anything that comes into his space.......you are welcome to him

Very nice fish doresy! Pulchers are a nono, when i first thought about setting up a tang tank I wanted shellies due to there behaviour so that is were I am going. Gold occelatus seem to be hard to get hold of and Ive had my eye on these for a while. Would they look a little lost in a 125L tank?

I had 1 Juli Dickfeldi in with my Multies and they never bothered each other I took heed to a comment that it looked lonley and added some more, they paired up and they odd ones got 7 shades of s**t kicked out of them On another occassion I added 1 Brichardi and in less than an hour ot herded all the Multies into one corner up high in the tank, it would dive at them whenver they came out of there shells it might just have been a rogue nasty but it wnet back to LFS the next day....
If you really want the Pulcher you could always mix it up with a few other tougher species , Telmatochromis temporalis "shell"
