Hey everyone!

Bit of a lurker and only tend to pop a message on the board when I've got a question - well two in this case!

1: After successfully "raising" 8 balloon mollies (now a month old), over the past few days, I've noticed that there are a further 23 (at last count) in the tank. Not having any spare tank (which leads me onto the next question - see below) - any advice on what to do as my tank is rapidly being overrun with fishies! Currently have:

1 plec, 6 neons, 4 bleeding hearts, 1 female guppy, 23 new fry, 8 one month old fry and 2 balloon mollies!

2: Been reading up a few of your posts - am due to move house soon so along with having the worry of that, I just wanna make sure that the fish survive the move - anyone gone through it and have you got any helpful hints?

All replies, gratefully received laydees and gents!!! :D

Is there anyway you can sell/give them to a LFS, or sell/give them to people on here or your friends? That's the best bet.

I've moved house before, a few times. Some tips would be;
  • Make sure to drain your tanks almost all the way, or all the way, otherwise you may have cracking problems.
  • Try not to slosh the fish around too much, and keep as much stress as possible off of them.
  • Keep your filter material WET. I cannot stress that enough!
How are you planning on moving the fish? I could probably help you more if I knew which way you're doing it.

hi
we managed to raise 50+ swordie babies in a separate little tank ( by putting mum in just before labour) & thankfully managed to get 2 local lfs to take them. its worth asking around. most places will give you a tub of fishfood or a little credit for them. we wont be doing that again we tend to let nature take its course in the main tank now & just rescue the one or 2 fry we see as i hate the stress of finding new homes. its not hard to rehome 1 or 2 but 50+ was a bit of a worry. you could also ask around or advertise here on this forum too you never know you might find someone whos looking for a couple in your area.
i havent ( thankfully) had to move home with our fish yet!!!!
good luck

Hey guys! :D

Thanks for your replies - well D-Day is nearly upon me (minimum of a fortnight away). With regards to moving the funny little buggers, I was thinking about draining out some of the current water and storing it ready to be "implanted" in the tank when I get to the new place. Also was going to bag up the fish to move them and then put them back in at the new place (I've read this somewhere but can't remember where). I was thinking this is probably the best option as I'm only moving about 6 miles down the road so the stress (although immense on their bodies) will be less (if you catch my drift :/ )

Any other suggestions as to how best to cope with this task?

Cheers!
