Hi All
I am thing of going to cichlids only and would like some advice first please
My tank is 4ft and 240lt and already has cichlid substrate in .
My filter is an external fluval 306 , would I need a bigger filter or can you clean once a fortnight in stead of once a month ?
What types of rocks or stones ?
What size would be best for my size tank
cheers for reading
cathy

Hi Cathy,
I keep Malawi's, your tank is a good size for them you need plenty of hiding places for them and if you have coral sand substrate that will keep ph up so shouldn't have problems with that, any rocks (that don't change ph) are ok and they are best kept "overcrowded" and also try to buy them as fry as they can be aggressive, also you can see them grow and colour up and reorganise tank a little when adding new fish and better to add 2 or more at a time as they try to find a new territory instead of bullying new fish, I do water changes once a week 50 to 70% is best and I use aquasafe and had no problems, your filter should be fine for this, I hope this helps you

Hi Brian
Cheers for answering :) Def thinking of swapping now ,  what about my filter size ? that is the down size bit as at mo it sits in my sideboard and don't think I could get away with a bigger filter as not enough height for it :(
