We have (Swordtail irrelevant as yet to breed from him):

Male Tuxedo Mix | Female Sunset x 2 | Female Red Platy

Currently have kept four 'adult' fry, all of them have the same father.

Firstly: I believe two fry which have the same parents have mated - could this cause issues <they look pretty similar>?

Secondly the father has taken an interest in one of his fry (different mother to the above), is this ok?

Lastly, if these are fine will fry of the same batch who breed back to their father / mother create different colours? For instance if the most orange fry bred back to the father (tuxedo) would there be considerable differences in the resulting fry than to a fry from the same parents who had the most black from the 'tuxedo'?

Is it a good idea to introduce other platy too to ensure the breeding doesn't go too far? For instance I'm on the look out for a blue platy mix female.

Just ask if you need some more information to help!

Cheers. :)

With lower lifeforms, such as fish compared to humans or other mammals, you can inbreed for several generations before problems start to devlop. This is the way different strains are produced. Line breeding means keeping one or more unrelated, or not very closely related lines of the same color variety, then inbreeding the two lines to fix a trait without the genetic problems of inbreeding. Outbreeding is what you are planning to do, by introducing a totally unrelated fish to your breeding setup.

Generally picking fish for desired traits, and breeding them together, will increase the likelyhood of this trait being passed on. This is how different color morphs are created.

Thanks!

We've managed to get a Micky Mouse Red Platy, so hopefully her fry will give us more Micky Mouse tails with a variety of colours. :)
