My new pair of German blue ram's have just laid & fertilised eggs over the last couple of hours & it was something that was so fascinating to watch. I even got it on video now :good: They've only been in the tank for 5 days together. She started to get an intense pink under her belly & a red lining on her fins (only after a couple of days) & I knew it was gonna happen! What to do next though?

Just a warning before you get to excited... If it's there first time spawning then they may not hatch as the parents still need to learn how to care for their eggs so usually end up eating them the first time, however it has been known that they do raise successfully on their first try. y nd up with a lot of young :)

A good fry food is baby brine shrimp You should be able to get them for your local fish shop. you could also try liquifry which is like a power fry food. also available from most fish stores.

You don't need to remove the fry as most cichlids care for their young themselves.

Good luck, hope this helped!

Another thing.. if they have paired they will end up spawning queite often, so you may end up with a lot of young, but most fish shops will tank them of your hands once at a good size.

Haha, well truth be told, when I got up this morning, all the eggs were gone... Nutthin' like a good load of caviar  I think Im going to put a flat rock in their to coz the eggs were layed on my bristenose plec's favourite driftwood & he wasnt to happy been chased away from it everytime he approached!! I will invest in a brine shrimp hatchery on the weekend. Will the fry add much more of a bio load to my tank?

For the first couple of weeks it should be fine, but as they get bigger the bioload will obviously increase but if you have a decent filter and do regular water changes it will be alright.

i just went the same thing.one day eggs, next day nothing.it was still very exciting to watch at least the spawning process.i can't wait till it happens again.
