she seems pretty big so I set up a 2 gallon tank with a mini heater and an air stone so it will be ready for when she begins giving birth. Since I adopted her I am unsure of how far along she is and was hoping someone could tell me? Also, any feedback on the fry tank would be helpful!

Thanks!!

This is the best picture I could get, sorry for the bad quality I took it with my phone >.<

I'm not an expert since I am trying to breed guppies not platys but I have read that they square off before giving birth.. Since your platy looks no where near square I would say you have some time to wait. ALso I'm assuming its the same with platys when its close to time to give birth, the birthing tube will start to become noticable under her bottom fin. But thats all I know at the moment. I'm reading all this from forums poasted a while back on here :)

As for the fry lots of plants. I have recently learned that horwort is one of the best. I just got some yesterday in fact and even my adult guppies love it! So I know the fry will too. Also have lots of places for the fry to hide from the mama or else they will become snack food. I have read lots of people do daily small water changes in their breeding tank and also test the water ever other day. But for that I would wait for other peoples opinions because I'm not using a breeding tank I'm allowing my fry to live in the same tank as my adult guppies :)

Good luck! Hope I was at least a little helpful!

I found that the sticky on it is very helpful, I just read it myself  she looks a little bloated in that pic but it might just be cuz its fuzzy.

I gave up long ago trying to judge my fish by the color of their gravid spot. It has only ever worked for me with guppies which I seldom bred intentionally these days. Guppies do happen though. Instead I always try to judge my fish by their shape, not size or color. I have a posted link in my signature area that will take you to a group of pictures I made of one of my mollies from one drop to the next. The whole point to that thread was to make each fish keeper their own expert on their fish's progress.
What I can tell from your cell phone picture leads me to believe that you probably have a week or two remaining before you see a fry drop. The size of your platy suggests to me that she is well fed. She is still very round shaped and not much squared off. That is not a reason to hold back on getting her a good tank to drop her fry in Corinne. A female that is placed in a drop tank and given a chance to become comfortable there will often do far better than a last minute move to a drop tank or a breeding trap.
