I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to whether or not Adolfoi cory and Sterbai cory can be kept in a group together?

If they can would they cross breed?

And would they even group together if they were in the tank together?

Thanks in advance Karen.

Most cories would prefer to be with their own group than another specie.  They coexist very well with each other though, and will hang out together at times, but also spend time separate as well.

Also, I've never heard of these corydoras, in particular, cross breeding.  So I don't think you need to worry about that.

Thanks for your prompt reply and the info

Think I may just stick with the Adolfoi then (I really fell in love with these) was just hoping I wouldn't have to buy 6+ of them as they are a little on the expensive side

The heart wants what the heart wants though eh :)

Hi Karen

I can only speak from my short experience of having 2 types of cory in my tank; sterbai and bandit. They do hang around with each other but the sterbai are far more active and so are not all together all the time.

Although I love them all, I do get the feeling that I should have got only 1 type. In my opinion the sterbai are a lot of fun to watch while the bandits are quite reclusive and skittish.

I believe some types of cory will interbreed, which ones specifically, perhaps a more experienced member will be able to say. However, I'm led to believe it's not a good idea for them to hybridize and as such that's another good reason just to stick with one type of corydora!

Regardless of the type of corydoras you get, 6+ is a must, IMHO, if at all possible.  I have a group of only 3 C. leopardus, but that's because that's all the store had and I can't seem to source any more without paying through the nose.  :(

Thanks FM I asked as I was worried of hybridisation as this is something I do not wish to happen :)

I don't suppose you would know if they will keep with apistos?

With them both being mainly bottom dwellers

I know exactly how you feel, meandmykribs!

I too set my heart on adolfois, from I saw them pictured in a book, in about 1998! I was horrified at the price, when I first saw them in the flesh but wanted them so badly, I had to have them!

I paid £50 for my group of six; I only have five now, after an 'incident' with some black volcanic sand :-(

Lovely fish though; still my favourite cory. When, if ever, I have some money spare, I'll definitely get more. I keep hoping mine will breed, but they never have; the pandas (and the CW021s I had until recently) breed all the time!

They should be fine with apistos

Yes the Adolfol are a minimum of £8 each and that's on the internet so your still looking at shipping costs :(
May be a while before the hubby lets me buy them haha

You could look into some other options... like C. metae and C. melini.

Similar looking and might be cheaper for you...

Yes they are beautiful I have seen the at 10 for £60 or £8 each its killing me but I just gotta have hahaha

Thanks for the info on apistos they are another of my must haves on the expensive list hahaha

Just be careful about stocking the apistos... they would be best with 1m/2-3f, but not two males.

Will have a look thanks but I think it may have to be Adolfoi regardless of price :)

I still have a little homework to do before purchase of apistos but thanks for the info :)

£8 each actually doesn't seem all that bad. Cheapest I've seen them for is £8.50 and the most is £15! Where did you see them for that price, if you don't mind my asking?

I actually do have sterbai and adolfoi together (I am migrating between species by replacing my ageing adolfoi with sterbai as they die) in my tank and I have absolutely no issue with them.

I'm not sure they can crossbreed, but if you have enough of each I find it unlikely even if it is possible..

Oh my, it was on the internet...........cant place the name of the site now but you also have min of £12 shipping charge so its not all that cheap when you work it all out :(
