Hi all,

I already have a Starlight Bristlenose in my african tank, and it is doing fine - been in there around 4 months now with no problems at all. I wanted to add another plec, but can someone please advise if there are any types that i should steer clear of? I don't want any common plec monsters - just one of the smaller sized ones say up to around 150mm.

There is a very nice (but expensive) green one in my LFS.....

Thanks,

Irf.

OK, so I guess I must be alone in wanting to do this.... or no one knows?

I wanted to do this too, buyt was advised by my lfs that there weren't many that would could go in, more due to their water requirements that anything else, (plecs being soft water with a lower ph). I have alwasy thought about trying it, but they are so expensive.

If the plecos in question are tank bred, they should do fine in the higher ph. However, generally the problem is the mbuna's aggression. Any pleco with long/large fins is likely to get munched on, that's why bn's are so highly recommended, they are tough enough and placid enough to deal with mbuna. If you want to try a different pleco go for it, but have a back up tank that it can be moved to if it doesn't work out.

Thanks mate - will take the advice.

I bought the plec I wanted and will try it in the tank today. It's a Green Phantom (L200), and it's beautiful. Bigger than any of the cichlids at the moment. If things get nasty in there for him, I'll put him in my community tank wher it's all generally very peaceful.

Regards,

Irf.
