Hi Everyone,

I have a Jewel vision 260 litre tank with the internal Jewel filter. However i seem to be having a reoccuring Nitrite spike and my smaller fish (guppys, celebes rainbows) are dying as a result, at a rate of 1 per week!! Basically i want to add a second filter to the tank but i cant afford anything fancy.

Can anyone recommend me a filter for around £50 - £70 that can supplement my Jewel internal filter

Thanks

Mark

What sort of water changes are you doing? I run a Tetratec 1200 with exactly the same tank as yours along with the internal filter. It works superbly well but would cost about £80.

Hi,

I'm only doing small water changes at the moment. What percentage should i be doing and how often. Does running to two filters improve the water clarity as well? i can stretch to £80 for the right filter, i just dont want any more of my fish die!!

Most recommend 20% each week. Obviously its depends on what you have in there as well. As for the two filters my water clarity is perfect with the two and it really makes a huge difference. :good: Things are so much easier the more you filter as you can never really over filter. I was advised on here to get the Tetratec 1200 for my 260l and its been great so far. Im sure if you shop around you can get a decent price, I bought mine from an online company.

what kind of mainence routine do you do on your filter? how often do you clean it etc?
