Will I be ok adding Neons to a tank without Bio-media.

My Fighter has been living in this tank happily with no problems.

It has a simple filter that uses only filter wool. No chemicals added and no bio-media.

Will they be alright?

Well, wouldn't the filter wool then be the "bio media"? Since it is media and bacteria are sure to be living on it if you haven't changed it out. It doesn't need to come in a package saying "bio-_____" for it to actually be bio media.

Is the tank over six months mature?
Have the Neons you plan on buying been at the fish store for at least two weeks?

Lucky you! Neither me, my mum nor my friend can keep neons any more, and we're all experienced fish keepers. They just seem to die off one by one over a few months or so, except for the odd one or two that go on for years; they must be the few less inbreed ones I guess.

I suppose the wool id bio-media yeah.

I dont bother with the whole wait 6months thing.

My tank is full of neons, rummys and cardinal and my tank is barely 2 months old. But that is choco with bio-media...not brave enough to chuck them in the small tank with just filter wool.

I've only lost 2 Pangasius and one was one that I rescued from a mates tank as it was half eaten. Havent lost anything else, so far so good.

Must be the water in Birmingham. Severn Trent are sposed to be one of the best if not the best in the country.

i added neons and did very little cycling to my tank as i knew vaguely what to do and just left the tank running for 2 weeks but didnt go through the process. anyway, 2 years on and i have only lost 1 neon and that was very recently. they are great
