Adding More Sand

Any advice folks, i already have sand but it needs a major top up, i used play sand before, but given i need to add it with water and fish in i was thinking of using filter sand? Any advise on where to get it from and how to add it??/

no idea where to get filter sand, but to add play sand to an existing setup, do it with a small cup-sized tub. Wash your sand, then with the water about 50% emptied, gently lower the cup/tub into the water, right way up. This minimises spill into the general area of your tank water. lower to the bottom of your tank then near your substrate surface, tip it out. almost all of it will settle on the bottom for you.
 
when done, raise water to 100%, then do another 50% water change. what is left floating for a day, your fish will not mind
