Hi was just thinking one lone cichlid would be awsome in my tank

The tank is 33 US gal and is running on a Rena XP3 (actually the xp3 + 2 internal but want to swap to just the XP3 for tank space eventually once im happy its done)

At the moment the stocking is

2 Honduran Red Point (Amatitlania siquia) (1M 1F)
5 Black Ruby Barbs (Puntius nigrofasciatus)
1 Flyer plec (Pseudolithoxus anthrax) L235
1 Wormline Peckolitia (Peckoltia braueri) L135

The fish I would like to add would be one of the following

african butterfly cichlid - Anomalochromis thomasi
red breasted acara - Laetacara dorsigera
dwarf flag cichlid - Laetacara curviceps

or possibly something else similar if anyone has any suggestions

I was also thinking of adding 2 or 3 more ruby barbs but would take the cichlid over these any day.

Thanks Wills

bump? sorry

Cool I'll get tracking down some from the LFS's in a few weeks time

Not any recent photos but I'll get some new ones tonight :)

The tank is a bit on the small side for another cichlid IMO,

An african butterfly cichlid would most likely dominate the tank if you added one,
The two Laetacara species should also be kept in pairs and can be really shy and easily picked on, they are dwarf cichlid species

thanks for the clarification on the african butterflys had read up on them and most said peaceful but no mention of mixing with other cichlids but there was somthing nigling about them I had heard problems with.

With the laetacaras - I thought cichlids can work well in singles? And with the HRPs they are considered dwarfs as well with the males usually maxing out at 4 inches females around 2.8 I thought with the barbs as dithers the total of three cichlids the M+F HRP and the new possible addition would be able to work?
