Adding large rocks

I wanted to add some large river stones and some slate rock to my aquarium. Is there anything that I should do to these besides rinse them off really good??

Edited to add that I got this slate rock from my sisters yard.. lol - It didnt come from a pet store.

just a thorough clean in hot water should be fine.make sure you scrub the stones with a tooth brush,small brush etc.

And check for tar on the stones, i know someone who used some Slate from Wales, and they didnt check it properly, just quickly rinsed it. One of the pieces had some tar on it and leaked into the water....*d'oh*

I always soak rocks (and everything else I put into my tanks), in boiling water to make sure their all clean.

What type of stones are they? Some are not suitable for use in tanks as they can alter the water chemistry. Calcite for example.

bunjiweb, you make it sound like only welsh slate can have tar on!! I'm quite insulted. LOL
