I was thinking about adding another small canister filter to my 125 set up that is curretly being cycled. I currently have a Rena Filstar XP3 which does i believe 330gph and is said to be able to do tank sizes up to 125 gallons. Yet i read that 330 gph isnt enough for a 125 so im not sure if i should get another. But if i do get another could i add it w/o screwing up the cycle? Also what is the best small canister filter for cheap??

Nah it wont start the cycle all over again I shouldn't think. The old filter will carry on cycling and the new one will start cycling as soon as you put it in. The new one should cycle faster as there will already be bacteria in the tank. If you put a bit of filter media from the old filter into the new one it will go even faster.

Just make sure you don't take the old one out cos that will start the cycle again - but the new one won't affect the cycle of the old one.

Your fish will thank you. I added a second cannister to my 75, and it really made a difference.

Thanks guys, but what do you think i should get, i was planning on getting another small one and i dont want to spend more than $65. What would you guys suggest, i live in MA, USA and ive nver seen eheim's for sale around here so please dont reccomend that.

As suggested before, i would get an aquaclear HOB filter. It will improve mechanical filtration in your tank and provide a bit more current. You could get an aquaclear 500 for 32 bucks from big al's. it's reated 500gph

As you said, 330 gph isn't a lot for a 125g. I'm getting 370gph for my 33 gal.(Penguin 170 + Aquaclear 200) You know what everyone says, you can never have enough filtration! :D But yea, go for that Aquaclear 500, I'm sure you won't regret it. Does a fine job of keeping water crystal clear!

Get an emperor 400! They are great filters. If you decide to go canister I hear the Magunm canister filter is very good.

U could spend $20 more dollars n get a marineland magnum 350 deluxe. Great and affordable and its rated at 500 gallons per hour. I have the pro 350 magnum system running on my

Yea thanks guys, i have a penguin 330 biowheel from my old tank not running, the reason its not running is because i dont like the noise of the power filters when the water evaporates and i dont like the looks.

I agree, go for the Emperor 400. I just ordered a second one for my 75 gallon today from Big Al's for $36.99. The AquaClears are really the best for mechanical filtration but IMO the Emperor's are superior due to the excellent bio-filtration and very good mechanical filtration. Either way you won't go wrong and they're both easy to maintain.

Again, i dont liek the power filters because of the noise aspect and the looks.

I have a penguin 330 w/ biowheel, i just dnt like the looks or noise.
