Adding A Valve To A Canister Filter.....

I currently have a Marineland C360 on a divided 56g Betta tank http/www.ultimateb...showtopic=43312 and the return is to strong.

I was thinking of adding an inline ball valve to reduce the return volume. Would this be OK? Or, would it damage the filter.

I figure the impeller is driven by a magnet, so I think it would be ok.

What about a bypass...... Hooking a line between the intake and return with a valve to control how much water gets recirculated..... No strain on the motor and I should be able to control the flow
