To start off, I have a 75 gallonwith
1 male flame dwarf gourami,
6 glolite tetras
5 praecox rainbowfish
14 cories
6 platties
2 albino bristlenose plecos(male and female)

I would like to make some additions to my tank!
1. Some khuli loaches.
2. 1 female Bolivian ram,
3 1 or 2 or 3 pearl gouramis!
I would like to no the compatibilty and what your experiences are with
BoliviAns, male dwarf gourami, and pearl gouramis.
If they get along/if they don't. If sometimes they do and I would just have to watch them.

There's alot of room and plants and caves accessories.

Now if the pearls will work, how many should I get and what is the male to female ratio?
1 male? 1 female? 2 female, 2 male, 1 male 1 female? 3 female? 2 female 1 male?... Etc

And if the Bolivian ram will work, it will be forsurely 1 female

Pearl Gouramis are supposed to be okay with Dwarf Gouramis. I've never personally put them together because my Pearl Gouramis are in a tank with a mean Opaline female that would surely try to bully my Powder Blue Dwarf.

The Pearls are good with either Three Spots or Dwarf Gouramis, but the Three Spots & DWarf Gouramis supposedly can't be kept together.

I use this site to check compatibility and they err on the side of very safe:

http://www.tropicalfishandaquariums.com/Compatibility/index.php

I just checked that link & it says German Blue Rams are not compatible with Dwarf Gouramis, but the same site recommends them as tank mates on this page:

I would be adding a Bolivian ram, not a German blue. Lol
So a pearl gourami male dwarf gourami and bolivian ram will all get along!?

Would the pearls be better with more than one? What male to female ratio?

Well the comapibility site didn't have Bolivian Rams as an option so I picked "German Blue Ram" since both are very similar Ram Cichlids. In fact that site has them both listed as Ram Cichlids and it shows pics of both. If I'm not mistaken the Bolivian Ram is just another color variation...............

The best ratio for all Gouramis is 1 male to at least 2 females. The idea is that the male's attention & aggression will be spread out if there's multiple females for him. That's the idea anyway but nothing beats personal experience in my humble opinion. My pair are fine with the dominant female Opaline. In fact the female Opaline sticks uop for the female Pearl sometimes................

Yes, according to many different sources on the web, you can keep Dwarf Gouramis, Pearl Gouramis and Ram Cichlids together. The biggest problem might be that Rams like low pH at 5.0-6.0 while Dwarf Gouramis & Pearl Gouramis do best between 6.0-8.0. Rams also need higher temperature at between 81-86 degrees F while the Pearls & Dwarf Gouramis require 75-82 F. It is possible to keep these together if you can maintain 82 degrees & a pH of 6.0, but some would argue that you're keeping them at their extremes.

i have 3 opaline gouramis with 3 bolivian rams and they all get along perfect...and +1 on what ruskull has said

i think i am just going to add 1 pearl. just pick 1 at random and then 1 bolivain ram.

i think that will be good. i might do 2 female pearls, not sure yet.
what do you think will be better for the happyness of the pearl...
(choose one or 2etc)
1. 1 male
2. 1 female
3. 1 male and 1 female
4. 2 females
5. 2 males
6. 2 females and 1 male.

Anything except number 5 & you should be okay. It's your choice, that's the best part.

If you want the least aggression between them go for all females. Males are the better looking ones with the long flowing & fringed fins but with that comes a bit more chasing no matter how many females you get. I would start with a single female or maybe two. Add a male later if you want.

I think I am going to start with 2 females. Hopefully they get along with my male dwarf gourami.
I think I no, but what is every way to tell the male and female apart?

The male has a much longer, pointy dorsal fin. His anal fin is also longer and if it's old enough the fin will have lacey fringes on it. The feamle has the shorter, rounded dorsal & the body is taller, shorter in length and almost diamond shaped if that makes sense? :good:

Here's my male, King Leeri:

So basically I can just look at it's top dorsal fin and if it's long and pointy it's a male and round and blunt, a femAle?!

Ok good! I think I can do that!
Hopefully the 2 females will get along with my male dwarf gourami!

They should, just give it a chance. They may chase him a little in the beginning but after a few days it should "get old" and the'll all get along just fine. Keep us posted on how it goes :good:
