hey guys dunno whether anybody will be able to answer this question but is there any diffrence from the activated carbon we get from the lfs and the charcoal filters you get in extractor unit in a kitchen? the reason is i fit kitchens and have a pretty much limitless supply of charcoal filters...

I'm pretty sure I remeber reading that there is a difference. Cant remeber the source though, will try and find it and post a link if I can.

Edit:

Not the link I was looking for but does kind of answer the question:
http://saltaquarium.about.com/gi/dynamic/o...ter/carbon.html

Basically I think that there is a difference between how porus both kinds of carbon are and that aquarium carbon will not leech as many phosphates into the water.

Good call on trying it on the QT first :). Make sure you try it for at least a few weeks to make sure you don't get resulting algae blooms :)
