I don't need to leave this in to cycle the tank do I? I've taken it out and just left the sponge in while it cycles and was going to put it back in once I do my big water change ready for fish.

Am on cycle day one so expect lts of whining about dragging time from me

sounds a good plan!! you may also need to clean the fine filter section, quite often during you cycle.
