Hi all.

As you know this MTS happens alot. (multiple tank syndrome). Got the 29 gallon two months ago and want bigger and better now. Looking for used and found a nice 55 gallon. For freshwater, is there any down side to acrylic? And this particular tank was a saltwater tank. Anything particular I should know about switching to fresh other than cycling and cleaning it all up.

P.S. I have come up with a decent agreement with my husband. Whatever gallon tank I get, he gets the same in number of inches for his new flat screen Television! 55 gallon, 50 + inches for the new Television.

Only down side to acryilc is really old ones might turn yellow the new tanks are better and this does not happen so much. Also they. Scratch easy. You need to be a pit more careful when moving stuff around.

But on the flip side all small scratches can be buffed out it's take work but you can get the tank looking awesome. Also if the scratches are on the inside once it is filled with water you will not see them. Personaly I think acryic is better then glass I'm looking to upgrade my 55 to a 100+ and I'm looking go get acrylic.

If you are looking for a used tank go bigger then a 55gal you will be happy you did. I wish I had waited longer for a good deal on a larger tank.

Acrylic:
light weight
stronger
last longer
easy to reseal
clearer view
scratches can buff out
very hard to break ( good for if you plan to move)

Glass:
cheaper
does not scratch as easy
