i have a freshwater moray (G.Tile) and i have had him living in fresh, yeah i know big no no, well anyways, i was wondering how i would go about acclimating himto a brackish enviroment.

Read the stickys at the tp of the Brackish section.

Raise the salinity of the water weekly by something like 0.002 until you get to what ever the gravity should be fr that particular fish.

Or, alternatively, acclimate the animal within a few hours, like you would with a normal tank acclimation. I have witnessed these Morays being thrown directly from fresh to full salt; I alerted the guy doing it that they would probably not survive the change so rapidly, but they did, and I eventually bought the Morays. This was a very long time ago, and after so many experiences with acclimation techniques, prolonged acclimation just doesn't seem so necessary to me any more.

That is fine if you have a fully set up and cycled tank to acclimate the eel to.

The point of raising the salinity of the water at a slow pace is for the benefit of the filter bacteria colony, not the fish.

I second that :good:
If you dont gradually raise the s/g in a tank then it could harm the filter bacteria.

I started cycling my tank as a freshwater tank. Since starting my cycle I have changed my mind and decided to have a brackish tank. I plan on having a species tank of BBG which require a SG of about 1.002-1.007. Would this method (raising the SG by.002 weekly) work for BBG since they require mildly brackish water? I am in my 2nd week of cycling. Would it be easier to start cycling over as a brackish tank or could I slowly add a little salt to my tank now as it's cycling? Help....this is all new to me! ????

:fish:

Yeah raising it by 0.002 per week would be fine because the fish and filter will with fine with it.
Increases/decreases in sg are natural for many brackish fish because of tides and such.
It would be best to wait until you get your bbgs before adding salt as many are kept in fresh at fish stores, then once they are settled in start raising it as stated above.
