hey,

ive been reeding up on blue acaras and i read up that they can live in a 30 gal?
and they can live with dwarf cichlids?

i just wanna clrify if this is true because i saw some small ones at my lfs

any help would be good

I wouldn't put them in a 30 gallon with a dwarf cichlid as even peaceful cichlids can get nasty sometimes.

I used to have a blue Acara that is around 4" big and he wipeout a school of bloodfin tetras and he was in my 33 gallon....so I wouldn't advice you to try it....

IME with blue acaras 2 could be keept in a 30g with no problems, but as juan has said they can get very nasty indeed, for a small cichlid they are very powerful and very fast. My female claimed 7 fish when she was breeding and even wanted to take on my jaguar.
If you want to move all those fish into another tank and put 1 male blue acara and also a firemouth in there it would work well as well as some sort of catfish.

alright so im saving up for other tanks anyways, thanx for the help

I have a lone blue acara in my 70g CA tank....

He is the largest fish in there (~7") and hes a big baby. He hides in his cave all day. He comes out to feed, and thats it. He never gets beat up or attacked in any way. He just seems like a loner. I have no doubts that a pair of these guys would do fine in a 30g. You just would probably never see them.....

arnt green terrors just a bigger version of blue acaras but way mroe agresive?

I really want to get a pair, but my lfs doesn't stock them at this time of year.

Do you guys think that they would go well with bala sharks, an oscar and maybe some high fin emperor sharks?

Should be fine with an oscar, but with that combo, you are talking about a 75g tank minimum, 100g+ being preferred. The oscars are not very agressive towards other large fish in my expereince, as is my expereince with blue acaras as well.

Not sure about sharks; I dont keep any of them. I imagine if they are larger, semi-agressive species they should be just fine.
