Hello. I have a 35 gal tank that has 2 young Parrot fish (about 6 months old) and 1 common Pleco about the same age. The Pleco is about 6 inches (I plan to rehome it to a larger tank in the future), and it will not eat the algae wafers; I was told that some Plecs are finiky and will not eat wafers and was told to try zuchinni or cucumber. It appears to love zuchinni, but I do not like the way the water clouds up, so I recently stopped feeding it zuchinni and I've been feeding it cucumbers. The water is clearer, but the Pleco makes SO much waste; I read in one of the forums that the zuchinni and cucumber is mostly indigestible for the Pleco. It eats so much (1/2 cucumber daily), and creates alot of waste. Can someone advise me on how often to clean the tank? I've had fish for about 5 years, but this is the first time I've had a Pleco that eats only vegetables and creates so much waste. If I'm not dealing with the cloudy water, it's the waste; I don't want to change the water too often for fear I'll disturb the normal cycling, but I'm trying to find a happy medium. I also have a filter able to support 60 gallons, but I have to change it at least every two weeks. Please help! This is too much cleaning for me, but I want to make sure the fish are happy.
