ok i was buying plants for my tank and decided to get some fish (my 3 gallon was empty) so i got 2 female guppies and 1 male. i came home and planted the plants. i was putting in my my guppies and noticed that one of my guppies was bulging and had a gravid spot (i have read tons about livebearers)

iv never had any baby guppies. will they kill themselves in the subrate? my tank is heavily planted will they be ok?

So they are in the 3 gallon? That's too small for them, I'd say you could keep one max in there. The others (preferably all) should be upgraded to 10 gallons or more. :)

Anyway, onto your question! The fry should be okay with the substrate, however the adults may give them some trouble. I'd recommend you let the mother give birth, then move her out so the fry don't get eaten. And here's some links for you;

Best of luck! :thumbs:
