still looking for what to put in the middle!

nice pieces of bogwood  :good: i would add some live plants in there. whats the stocking? wont the lobster kill your fish?

Oh wow!!! :kewlpics:

   the tank! What size is it?? What else do you plan on putting in there??

noooooooo!!!! no plants going in there  i don't *do* plants!!! hehe unless they're floating and need no maintenance?

cray is *tiny* atm, he's replacing an psycho adult female that died recently, and she ate anything that dared to swim past her! hopefully because the cray is so small atm, he's not much bigger than a plattie! he might tend to leave stuff alone a bit more!

stocking atm..

6 various coloured tiger barbs
1 RTBS
1 crayfish (cherax quad)
2 BN plecs
2 juvenile clown loaches
4 female mollies, 2 male mollies
2 male swordtails 3 female platties
1 tyretrack eel
1 baby fire eel
1 mussel
1 snail (bought him last night, not sure what he is yet i need to research him!)

planned inhabitants, discussing whether adding a shoal of cories would be good to do now while the cray is small, and thinking about a dozen harlequin rasbora, and currently researching rams, apistos and kribs to see if i can add a couple of pairs or 1 x male, 2 x female, stuff that is slightly aggressive that holds it's own should be fine in this tank :) any other suggestions would be cool :)

tank is 5ft 4long, 14" wide, 30" deep, running 2 fluval 404's, holds 500litres/110 uk gallons

tightrope!! hehe, we've recently overhauled the whole tank after the white spot disaster, basically the tank was installed by a company as it was replaced on house insurance when it broke in my mother in laws house who owned the tank from new, she didn't want it so it was offered to the family.. oohh pick me!! pick me!! the disaster prompted me to reassess my knowledge of maintaining a healthy tank and realised that i didn't know nearly as much as i needed to and so a steep learning curve was undertaken, lots of posts and other's experiences were read and digested and i untook the task of gaining control of the tank, with my new found knowledge i did all i could to preserve as much bacteria as possible and stripped all the thick layer of black sand out of the tank, removed lots of other wood and replaced with river pebble gravel that you see in there now, we've replaced as much as we could of one filter to give it some tlc, all new pipes coming in and out, inlet and spraybar/jet and have replaced 4 chambers of carbon with various thickness of sponge, we've bought new lights and reflectors and as soon as we've had the lid off (takes 2 to lift it) again to replace the pipes on the second filter (when the shop finally take delivery) then we'll set the lights up properly to remove the tightrope that you see hanging down the back!

still looking for some rocks, saw some nice ideas at LFS last night, but they didn't have rock in the size we needed it :/ with some messy inhabitants we're cleaning 50% of the gravel on a weekly basis and moving one piece of wood each time to undertake this task therefore anything that goes in the middle needs to be easily taken apart and reassembled, not an easy task when you learn that the tank is taller than i am! hubs will get that job methinks :good:

ty for your encouraging comments! it's been a rollercoaster of late with everything going wrong in there and so much stuff dying, i'm so happy that it's finally starting to take shape :)

No plants at all!!!!

sorta looks bare and empty without something to make it look natural...but everyone to their own i guess

add some more wood in the middle. or get a piece f wood already attached with plants often java fern. its easy to keep and dosent need any hard care.

definately no more wood, we lived with it with loads of wood in for nearly a year and we wanted some rocks for a change :) *finally* the water is starting to lose that horrid yellow tinge! :hyper: along with the stagnant sand one of the bits of wood we took out smelt of rotten eggs too, we know the 2 bits we have are sound.. they should be for what they cost!! we do have a bit of bogwood in the shed that may make a reappearance in the tank someday, it's tall enough to reach the top and has a cave like shape to the bottom, but it's not going back in for this refit, it needs to look much different to what it did a few weeks ago before the nightmare ;) we toyed with the idea of a fake bit of wood but i've not seen any big enough to make an impact, a small bit would look daft i thought :/ the bit we saw was £30 so we're not running in to buy the first thing we see, spent hundreds on the tank getting it to this stage in the last few weeks >.<

no point getting any plants, the cray would have a field day!

i have to use a ladder to do any maintenance at all, i certainly have no hope of reaching the bottom! plants are *definately* out unless they float!
