Life, Love & Everything in Between
Sharkbait was the first betta I ever owned. He was nothing spectacular, just a little dark blue VT that I bought from Petco, but boy did he have personality. He flew solo for about a year before my "betta bug" kicked in and I added to my collection, but he was always my favorite. I've had him for 3 years and I know he was no juvy when I bought him. I noticed a couple months ago that he was starting to look his age, getting grey around his muzzle and his fins were starting to fuse together but he still was as feisty as ever. About 2 weeks ago I moved him from his 2.5g to a 1g bowl so he wouldn't have as far to go to get some air. I put his little terracotta pot in (which he loved to sleep in) and his bushy plant and he was happy as a clam, nestling himself in the plant so he could just barely pop his head up for air, and blowing quite an impressive bubblenest for an old guy. He stopped eating 5 days ago so I knew that his time was close. Before I went out to run some errands yesterday, I went over to him to talk to him and tell him how handsome he was, and he blew 4 bubbles at me, I told him I loved him and left. I came home and there he was, curled up in his little pot, not moving
I went and told hubby (he was gutted) and we took him out and buried him in our garden. Rest In Peace Old Man, you were greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
