After trying...and failing with some different male/female combinations, i've finally gone back to my original red VT male and "normal" female that spawned 4 weeks ago (see thread "4 week old fry")
Because the last spawn had gone so well....with the female going under the nest withing 5 minutes of releasing her, i was probably a bit impatient with the other attempts.
So i released the female this morning and literally went straight under the nest again. They started spawning within 5 minutes.....about an hours worth of dummy runs and then she started releasing the eggs by the bucket load.
So obviously the fry are going to be the same or very similar to the last lot but i'm not worried about that too much. Once these have spawned.....providing everything is ok, it'll give me a chance to find some better or different coloured females.
