Nice video but as invader already mentioned and as I've already told you in another post you MUST get a bigger tank for the eel & bichir, you have a common plec as well if I remember correctly, that needs a much bigger tank too.

You also need to remove the corys before the bichir decides to eat them or at least trys to eat them. It might be working at the moment but one day it will happen and in the end the bichir, eel & plec will get far too big for your tank so either get a much larger tank or rehome them.

im actually buying a 400 litre (87 gal) tank at the end of next week, Im planning on putting the plec, eel, bichir and my little shovel nose in there. Even though my bichir is quite a big guy, he's never tried to eat anything in my tank, he actually shy's away from most of the things in there. But I understand what your saying, and I've just been waiting for the funds to get this new tank.

The 400 will be fine for the polypterus and plec (though be advised, I've read not to keep them together as over time a plec can devlop a taste for the polypterus slime coat) BUT the fish you call a shovel nose Fenrir, I think is more commenly known as a Tiger shovel nose, a fish that can grow...and grow...and grow..to over 3.5ft (though there are I think 8 types of shovelnose, the smallest one can reach over 2ft easily, the largest to 5ft). I would be worried about this fish more than anything.

That is ofcourse if I have ID'd the fish right, I have never heard of a fenrir, but the pictures look remarkably similar to baby TSN.
Lol, another edit, but I just thought that Fenrir, might be a name you call it.

Ps. the fire eel can also reach 3ft.

I think that Fenrir is the name he called it, like the fire eel is called merlin? i could be wrong, but thats the way it reads to me, which is probably why you've never heard of it. so you are probably right on the id :p

yup, thats right. they're names i have given them. lol. yeah, i know thay can grow large, but, the store that i got them from have assured me that if/when they do get too big, they will take them back from me and dicount me on future buys. Also its not going to happen over night so I have a while to enjoy them :) .

You will not see him grow if he doesn't have the space to, that is probably why the LFS told you that...

Stunting fish is a very bad thing...

Yes, but are you able to part with them when the time comes?

Ill just make it quick. Plecs and birchirs can live together. But your 400 is far to small for the fire eel and the tiger shovel nose will grow very quickly and WILL eat all the fish you have in that tank not might eat WILL eat.

If it was me, I wouldnt keep a plec and birchir together, as there is a chance of the plec removing the slime coat of the birchir. I think beblondie (off mfk, whos quite a birchir expert) could offer their opinion, it would be useful.

as far as i know its only a certain few species of plec that are known to get the taste for this slime coat

My plecs are fien with birchirs...It's my CAe who was having a go.
