Bit of a daft question but i've had a my Jewl rio 180 set up for about a year now, but I want black gravel or sand in it.

whats the best way of doing this? has anyone got experience of doing it before? I don't want to stress my fish out too much.

thanks.

rinse rinse rinse and let dry. Are you using a under-gravel filter?

No i have an external one and an internal one so just rinse the new gavel, do i just bop the fish in a bucket for a while?

just chuck it in a bucket- about half fill it ( i use the sink),u could use the hose i guess but its cold out there today lol. i fill the bucket with water, swish it then let settle and pour out.. repeat untill as clear as you think its going to get

tedious job but the end results are deffo worth it :)

when you go to fill the tank if you use a hose you might want to make sure the water runs down the glass rather than messing up the sand again

Depends, I see no problems draining it most of the way and then scooping out the old stuff and putting in the new stuff. Your gonna have to scoop it anyways unless you can tip your tank and dump it out...so IMO just leaving enough water in your tank for the fish to swim a bit while your doing it. I would just make sure I had all the new rock rinsed first and then go do the transfer... much less time that way with little water left in the tank.
