After realising that yellow tail damsels really are evil they are all gone now to decide our stocking the tank is 48usg:

We currently have
2x tank bred percular clowns
1x social fairy wrasse
1x bangaii cardinal
1x yellow watchman goby

going to add:
1x purple firefish
1x royal gramma
1x flame angel

We would like to add maybe something else if possible:
1x longnose hawkfish or does anyone have any other ideas????

Hawkfish can be as much of a terror as damsels... Perhaps a different variety of fiary wrasse?

So if I kept my stocking at

2x tank bred percular clowns
1x social fairy wrasse
1x bangaii cardinal
1x yellow watchman goby
1x purple firefish
1x royal gramma
1x flame angel

Then maybe waited till I saw something I really liked then add it. How many more on top of the stocking above would you say I could go to?

I've never had any problems with Longnose hawks

A group of Chalk Bass are lovely

Or Royal Grammas are also nice in a group if they are introduced at the same time

A pair of Neon Gobies possibly

TBH I dont really want to add a group until I have upgraded to a lrager tank as I do not want to limit my stocking with a group of fish I prefer single specimens.

sounds similar to the stocking im aiming for!

i was thinking of a longnose hawkfish too but heard they were agressive which is ashame since they look awesome!

id just list what ive been looking at that u havent listed .... green clown goby, filamented flasher wrasse, myserty wrasse, and the rest im lookign at uve listed or uve listed a similar one e.g. dottyback!

as for stocking levels my LFS told me for my tank size which is same, about 8-10 fish dependent on size etc. hope this helps a little.

I've actually kept a medium sized hawkfish (not a longnose, but a falco) in with fish smaller than him and he completely ignoreg them. They are lovely animals really, with a temperment to match, but some of the larger species can be predatory and territorial.

ok so do you think if I went with

2x tank bred percular clowns
1x social fairy wrasse
1x bangaii cardinal
1x yellow watchman goby
1x purple firefish
1x royal gramma
1x flame angel

I could add a longnose hawkfish or something else???

i wouldn't go with a flame angel. 1) They cost loads. 2) You need to supply them with loads (i mean loads) of algae other wise they turn onto your corals there was a whole article on them in PFK. One completely decimated a reef tank. I'd stick with coral beauty or something similar if anyhting. bUT ALL ANGELS ARE RISKY IN THE REEF UN LESS IT IS A MASSIVE RREEF.

sorry caps.
