I am using a full spectrum light for my aquarium. It's the ten in my profile btw. ANyway the potential problem is that when I turn off the light, unless I unplug it, a dim (incandescent???) light comes on. It's light sensitive and cuts on whenever there isn't much light in the room. It isn't very bright and it looks REALLY nice. actually i'll go see it I can take a picture of it on, I'll post it in a min. ANyway is this really bad? I like it and it's a pain to unplug every night, but do the fish mind?

well it's a bit brighter than that. You can clearly see the fish, etc. with the night-light on.

edit: well that's good to know. I hope it isn't too bright for them. they act different when I cut out the full spectrum light. I like the night light and they don't seem to mind it.

Hmm...that may be a problem. Is the incandescant light attached to the flourescant fixture? If so, buying a timer would be the best solution to this problem

Try leaving the light on for a few days, and if the fish/amphibians/crustaceans seem to exhibit strange behavior or even illness, get a timer :)

ok. Another thing I tried was to cover the incandescent light with a paper towel. This cut's the light out put down to about 1/4 of normal. It makes it really look like the picture I took. I think this will solve the problem but I wish there weren't a problem. The tank looks really cool with the night light on. Oh well. I can just use the night light when I want to watch them at night I guess. Thanks dwarf

does the timer actually cut off power to the fixture because the night light still cuts on when I switch off the full spectrum light.

A timer cuts off the power to what ever is plugged into it :)
