A Great Tragedy...

Yeah just now when I read your post, CBBP, I was thinking "parasites." Were your SAE wild caught? I have been told by others to always treat wild caught for parasites. I usually just think in terms of internal ones, so give treated food for awhile. [Not too knowledgeable about parasites from the wild, just do something that makes me feel like I'm doing something. :/ I've been feeding Thera to my Tanganyikan Rift tanks.]

it seems my one last living SAE will contiune to live.. any idea how long it will take till he gets mean?

SAE's generally don't get mean. They're good, even tempered fish that continue to do their job even as they grow. It's the CHINESE algae eaters that get really agressive and try to suck slime and scales off other fish when they get big.

:shout: CAE's do what!!!!!!! suck slime off fish!!!!! not only is that a totaly discusting thought ugh  but ive got one hes a big 6" too he'd better not suck on anything other than the bloody themometer, sorry to hijack a thread but how do you know if your fish have been sucked :look:

mm.. well SAEs are all wild caught now that i think about it.. do they spread form fish to fish easily? I will probably treat the whole tank anyway.

I think that's the best idea. That's why I asked. I tried getting SAE's when I got hair algae. Good Luck! So I followed the plant people's advice and changed my light schedule.

I have gotten lots of wild caught lately. I'm thinking it would be good to check from now on about whether they get treated or not. Like I said, I'm not much good with the meds and don't really know what needs to be done. I got a whole load of Lake Tanganyika fish recently and I fed them NewLife Spectrum Thera, which basically just has garlic.

mm.. well my SAes whewre not so much for algea but more for the little pretty shiny fish itself..

I have never seen one. Never could locate anything but the false ones. I'm sorry you lost your group. :shout: :-( I hope your lonely guy pulls through, :good: and you can get him some mates.

If gill flukes are what are affecting your fish, then you'll need a specific parasitic med that deals with them, treating the whole tank is better- however be careful as many anti-parasitic meds will kill critters like shrimp or snails, so be careful on what meds you add to the tank.

those sites are UK.. I bought some Prazi.. cost a butt load. I hope it works.. then from now on I will quarintine every single thing that goes in that tank!

Sorry didn't realise look at the poster location.
